Al-Quran - Is the Quran Created or Uncreated? The Eternal Energy of the Divine Word and the Vibration of Existence

By Rizwan Ibn Ali Abdullah

🌙 1. Introduction: The Question Beyond Time

Since the earliest centuries of Islam, scholars and seekers have asked a question that transcends time itself:
Is the Quran created or uncreated?

This question is not merely philosophical; it reaches to the very essence of existence. For if the Quran were created, it would belong to the realm of time and decay. But if it is uncreated, it shares in the eternal nature of Allah’s attributes — beyond change, beyond beginning, beyond end.

In truth, the Quran is not merely ink on paper or sound waves in air. It is the eternal vibration of divine command, the spiritual energy that breathes life, consciousness, and guidance into creation.

Through the recitation of the Quran, the heart encounters not human speech, but the echo of eternity — the Word of Allah manifesting within time yet belonging to no time.

Science tells us that every particle vibrates; every atom sings a silent frequency. Faith tells us that behind all vibration lies a command — “Be” — the eternal decree of Allah.

Reflection: The Quran is not bound by sound or script — it is the resonance of the Divine Will echoing through every atom of existence.

📜 2. Theological Foundation: The Quran as the Eternal Word of Allah

The Attribute of Speech (Kalamullah)

In the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah, the Quran is understood as the uncreated Word of Allah (Kalamullah ghayru makhluq). Speech is among the eternal attributes of Allah — not separate from Him, nor identical to His creation.

The Mutazilites, a rationalist group of early Islamic theology, argued that the Quran was created in time. But Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (رحمه الله) and the scholars of the Sunnah stood firmly against this notion.

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said:
“Al-Qur’ān Kalām Allāh ghayru makhlūq. Man qāla makhlūq fa-huwa kāfir.”
“The Quran is the Word of Allah, uncreated. Whoever says it is created is a disbeliever.”

This is not mere dogma but a defense of Allah’s perfection: His Speech, like His Knowledge, has no beginning and no end.

Allah ﷻ says:

Innamā amruhu idhā arāda shay’an an yaqūla lahu kun fa-yakūn
“His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it: ‘Be!’ — and it is.”
(Surah Yā-Sīn 36:82)

Creation came through His Word — never before it. The Word is not part of creation; it is the source by which all creation exists.

Reflection: Every created thing begins after “Be” – but the command “Be” itself is timeless.

⚛️ 3. The Quran and the Concept of Divine Energy

Modern physics tells us that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it only changes form.
This mirrors a deeper metaphysical truth: the divine command that animates the cosmos is eternal. The Quran, as the uncreated Word of Allah, represents that inexhaustible energy — the eternal current flowing from the Source of Being.

When a believer recites the Quran, the divine energy that sustains the universe manifests in sound, rhythm, and vibration. These are not mere metaphors. Sound waves truly vibrate through air and matter, influencing the molecular world.

Allah ﷻ reveals the power of His Word:

لَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُتَصَدِّعًا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ
Law anzalnā hādhā al-Qur’āna ‘alā jabalin lara’aytahu khāshi‘an mutaṣaddi‘an min khashyatillāh
“If We had sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and rent asunder from the fear of Allah.”
(Surah al-Hashr 59:21)

The mountain, a symbol of solidity, would crumble under the vibrational intensity of divine revelation. Matter itself cannot resist the frequency of divine command.

Thus, the Quran is not just a message but a manifestation of divine energy — transforming hearts, healing souls, and shaping matter through unseen resonance.

Reflection: Every verse recited is a pulse of divine energy — eternal, uncreated, and transformative.

💫 4. Internal Energy, Vibration, and the Human Heart

Within every human being exists a profound energetic system - not only physical but deeply spiritual. The nafs (self), ruḥ (soul), and qalb (heart) are like subtle fields of energy, constantly vibrating between light and darkness, remembrance and forgetfulness.

When a believer recites or listens to the Quran, their internal frequency begins to harmonize with the divine vibration of Allah’s Word. The soul resonates with heavenly rhythm, bringing peace, clarity, and purification.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ described this beautifully:

"تَصْدَأُ الْقُلُوبُ كَمَا يَصْدَأُ الْحَدِيدُ"
They said, “What is its polish, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said, "ذِكْرُ اللَّهِ وَتِلَاوَةُ الْقُرْآنِ"
“The hearts get rusted as iron does.” They said, “What is its polish, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “The remembrance of Allah and recitation of the Qur’an.”
(Al-Bayhaqi)

This spiritual polishing is affirmed by the Qur’an itself:

"الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ"
Alladhīna āmanū wa taṭma’innu qulūbuhum bi-dhikrillāh. Alā bi-dhikrillāhi taṭma’innul-qulūb.
“Those who believe and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of Allah — surely, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

Just as energy in physics vibrates at certain frequencies, the human heart also has its own vibrational rhythm – one that becomes disturbed when filled with anxiety, sin, or heedlessness. The remembrance of Allah acts as divine resonance – restoring the heart to its natural frequency of peace (ṭuma’nīnah).

Modern studies reveal that rhythmic sound patterns, such as Quranic recitation, influence brain-wave coherence and heart-rate variability, producing measurable calm and emotional balance. Spiritually, this mirrors the heart’s return to its original harmony with divine energy.

🕊️ Reflection:
Every beat of a believer’s heart that remembers Allah vibrates with the same divine harmony that sustains the stars, oceans, and all creation. In remembrance lies not only peace – but the echo of eternity.

🌞 5. Quran as Light and Healing Energy

The Quran often describes itself as Noor (Light) and Shifa’ (Healing) — both symbols of energy and restoration.

Yā ayyuhā al-nās qad jā’akum burhānun min rabbikum wa-anzalnā ilaykum nūran mubīnan
“O mankind! There has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear Light.”
(Surah an-Nisā’ 4:174)

Wa nunazzilu mina al-Qur’āni mā huwa shifā’un wa raḥmatun lil-mu’minīn
“And We send down from the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers.”
(Surah al-Isrā’ 17:82)

Just as light nourishes all living forms, the Quran nourishes the soul’s energetic structure. Its verses illuminate the inner darkness caused by arrogance, envy, fear, and despair — diseases of the spiritual energy field.

Every act of dhikr (remembrance) and every recited verse releases the divine frequency of light, rebalancing the believer’s spiritual circuitry.

Reflection: The Quran is both light and sound — it illuminates the unseen and harmonizes the seen.

🌌 6. The Divine Command: Source of All Creation

At the heart of creation lies a single command:
“Kun Fayakūn — Be, and it is.”
This is not merely a phrase — it is the primordial vibration from which all existence unfolds.

Allah ﷻ declares:

Badī‘u al-samāwāti wa al-arḍi wa idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn
“The Originator of the heavens and the earth; when He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.”
(Surah al-Baqarah 2:117)

Every galaxy, atom, and heartbeat emerged through this timeless command. The divine “Be” is not sound as humans know it — it is a creative vibration beyond frequency, a command that gives existence its very pattern.

The Quran, being the same uncreated Word, is therefore the root energy from which all form derives meaning.
Creation is the echo; the Quran is the Source.

When we recite or hear the Quran, we are not producing sound alone — we are touching the original command that brought the universe into being. It is as if the cosmos itself listens, resonating once more with its origin.

Reflection: Every verse of the Quran is a return to “Kun Fayakūn” — a meeting between the created and the Creator’s command.

🧠 7. Science and Revelation: Harmony, Not Conflict

In the modern world, science often seems to speak one language and faith another. But in truth, they describe different layers of the same reality.
Where revelation speaks of “light,” science speaks of “energy.”
Where the Quran mentions “vibration” in divine command, physics speaks of frequency and resonance.

At the quantum level, everything vibrates — electrons, atoms, even empty space. Nothing is still. This constant vibration is what gives matter its existence. The Quran alludes to this ceaseless activity when Allah says:

تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ
Tusabbiḥu lahu al-samāwātu al-sab‘u wa al-arḍu wa man fīhinna wa in min shay’in illā yusabbiḥu bi-ḥamdihī wa lākin lā tafqahūna tasbīḥahum
“The seven heavens and the earth and all that is within them glorify Him; there is not a thing except that it glorifies His praise — but you do not understand their glorification.”
(Surah al-Isrā’ 17:44)

Every atom glorifies Allah in its motion — a universal dhikr expressed through vibration.
The scientist observes frequency; the believer perceives tasbīḥ. Both witness the same phenomenon through different eyes.

To understand this harmony, one must realize that the Quran’s language transcends categories.
“Energy” and “vibration” are human approximations — metaphors that hint toward a reality beyond the measurable, a realm where divine command operates directly.

Thus, science, when purified of arrogance, becomes a mirror reflecting the verses of creation — the Āyāt Kauniyyah — while the Quran is the Āyāt Qawliyyah, the spoken revelation.
Both arise from the same Source.

Reflection: When science discovers vibration, it rediscovers dhikr; when the believer recites the Quran, he resonates with the cosmic symphony.

🌺 8. Conclusion: Living by the Eternal Energy of the Quran

To believe that the Quran is uncreated is not merely a theological stance — it is a doorway into living consciousness.
Every recitation is a contact with the eternal; every verse spoken is a bridge between the finite and the Infinite.

The believer who lives by the Quran tunes his being to the divine frequency of mercy, truth, and justice.
His words carry light, his thoughts radiate serenity, his presence becomes healing for those around him.

Allah ﷻ describes Himself as:

اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ
Allāhu nūru al-samāwāti wa al-arḍ
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.”
(Surah al-Nūr 24:35)

The Quran is that Light made audible, the eternal Word echoing through creation.
It is guidance, healing, and divine vibration — all in one.

When one surrenders to it, the Quran re-aligns the human soul with its origin. The noise of ego quiets; the energy of peace prevails.

To live by the Quran, then, is to live in harmony with existence itself — to walk as a luminous being in a world that yearns for divine resonance.

Reflection: Every verse you recite is a wave returning to its Source; every breath in remembrance is a spark of the eternal Word.

🕊️ Final Reflection

The Quran is not merely revelation — it is reality unveiled.
It existed before creation, sustains creation, and will remain when all creation fades.

In its sound is life; in its rhythm, healing; in its message, eternity.
The one who recites with awareness does not merely read — he participates in the cosmic remembrance of Allah.

“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they may reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.”
(Surah Ṣād 38:29)

May our hearts always vibrate with the eternal energy of the Quran — the uncreated Word of Allah, the divine vibration of existence.

“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”
(Qur’an 20:114)

“O Allah, show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it. Show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. Do not make it unclear to us, lest we go astray.”

🌸 Jazakumullahu Khayran for reading.
🌙 May peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
